The Work and the Glory Series by Gerald N. Lund

The Work and the Glory Series by Gerald N. Lund is an Mp3 collection of the nine volume historical adventure series that is quite unlike any other.  Gerald N. Lund has done a masterful job of weaving together historical facts in church history and great fictional characters to make a story of monumental enjoyment and learning.

The series deals primarily with the lives of a fictitious family, the Steeds, who move to New York state in the 1820’s during a time when there was a great excitement among a number of people who questioned  the validity of the Prophet Joseph’s revelations, his receipt of the golden plates, and other events in early church history.  It was a period of time when testimonies were growing from a tiny spark to a burning fire in the bosom, and the lives of family members everywhere were going through mighty changes as the Gospel of Jesus Christ was being restored.   As we share in the lives of this wonderful family we begin to realize and feel the intensity of the emotions, passions, sentiments, and convictions that urged the pioneers onward as they struggled to believe and live the restored gospel.

Each volume I have listened to has pulled me into the next one.  I could hardly wait to know what was coming next.  Most of all, I gained an understanding of many real historical facts regarding early church history that I was unaware of previously.

The Work and the Glory Series by Gerald N. Lund is also available in individual volumes on Mp3 download at ldsaudio.com.

6 Events; The Restoration Model for Solving Life’s Problems by Stephen R. Covey

6 Events; The Restoration Model for Solving Life’s Problems by Stephen R. Covey is an Mp3 audio book download of exceptional value.  Dr. Covey has done it again!  His books are always excellent, and this one has got to be one of his best in my opinion.

How many of us go about our lives struggling to find ourselves in this maze of mortal development?  How many of us have even thought of looking at the events of the restoration as a model for finding out who we really are and where we belong in the whole scheme of things here in this world and the world to come?  Stephen R. Covey thought about it long and hard.  This book has been twenty years in the making, and I am so excited about the possibilities which are associated with it.  It is not only interesting reading, but can be used as a simple but profound program for internalizing the gospel.

As Latter-day Saints, we sometimes take for granted the advantages we have in knowing that we are, in fact, literally spirit sons and daughters of our Heavenly Father, and that as such, we are of intrinsic value to Him.  He knows us by name.  He loves us.  He cares about our every need and desire.  It is an enormous blessing to know this.  The first event, The First Vision, brought a new paradigm shift from the way the world sees our Heavenly Father as a spirit being to the reality that he is a glorious, exalted man.  After this event we no longer need to wonder who we are.

6 Events; The Restoration Model for Solving Life’s Problems by Stephen R. Covey is an invaluable aid to building a strong testimony of our infinite worth as sons and daughters of God.

Whose Values Do You Value? by John Bytheway

Whose Values Do You Value? by John Bytheway is an MP3 Book download.  This is 65 minutes of pure gospel educational entertainment.  Brother Bytheway is in top form as he delivers to a group of young people a talk highlighting the principles of the Young Women’s Values and the principles of the Scout Oath.  He teaches youth how they can implement these values into their daily lives.  Sometimes we don’t realize when we are not living by the values we proclaim.  This book definitely helps to point out some of those ways and how to correct them.

John Bytheway never ceases to amaze me when he addresses youth.  Though I am not a teenager, he takes me back to my youth where I can re-live the feelings I had as a young person, which can be very helpful to me in understanding the feelings of teenagers today.  One can surely tell that he spends a lot of time with these young people, as he understands the vernacular they use in both their speech and action.

In Whose Values Do You Value? by John Bytheway, Brother Bytheway tackles some of the toughest challenges of growing up Mormon head-on with both humor and spiritual insight.

25 Beloved Hymns of the Restoration by Michael Dowdle

25 Beloved Hymns of the Restoration - by Michael Dowdle, is an MP3 download that brings the songs of the restoration of the gospel, such as “The Spirit of God”, “Praise to the Man”, and “Joseph Smith’s First Prayer” into one’s very heart and soul.  His beautiful guitar presentation brings a peaceful, reverent tone into my home which seems to welcome the Holy Spirit.  My husband and I play this wonderful album almost every morning as we begin our day.  It just seems to give us the quiet, gentle start that sets our feet moving in the right direction.

Other albums by Michael Dowdle such as his “25 Beloved Carols of Christmas”, his “25 Beloved Primary Songs”, “25 Beloved Hymns of Christ”, and “25 Beloved Hymns of Prayer and Faith” can’t help but bring the universal power of music into our hearts whether we are riding in the car, walking, or working.

In the chapel where I attended meetings as a child in Logan, Utah, there was a very beautiful mural along one whole wall of the chapel which depicted early scenes of the period of the restoration.  It made the first vision, the prophet Joseph, and the pioneers come alive to me.  It was a powerful tool in shaping my testimony.

As I play “25 Beloved Hymns of the Restoration” by Michael Dowdle, I applaude the magical talent of this renowned guitartist for his choice of some of the most stirring hymns of my life.  As a child, I learned the words to many of these wonderful songs, and the sweet memories these hymns evoke of early primary teachers and faithful members whose examples helped to shape my testimony is a beautiful blessing to me.  Thank you, Michael!

Are Mormons Christian? by Stephen E. Robinson

Are Mormons Christian? by Stephen E. Robinson is an audio CD book that is also in MP3 format.  This book is a “must” read for LDS members in this day of heightened interest in our status as “Christians” due to the political elections that are presently in process.

Anyone who has ever had a course taught by Stephen E. Robinson, whether it be at BYU in Provo, Education Week, or Know Your Religion classes, knows why I always seek out any book written by this outstanding author and teacher.  I have been held spellbound by his unusual style of teaching in all the classes that I have attended which were taught by him.  I could hardly wait to return to class the next week when I attended his BYU class on the teachings of Paul in the New Testament.  Never have the teachings of Paul come alive to me more strongly than they did as I sat mesmerized in his classes.  His book on Believing Christ is a classic which has often been quoted by many general authorities in their conference talks because of the validity of its message.

“Are Mormons Christian?” by Stephen E. Robinson is no exception.  The content is well researched and believable, and is a most helpful tool for Latter-day Saints at this time when our religion, beliefs, and ranking as Christians are being freely challenged.  It can give us all a better understanding of how misconceptions regarding our beliefs came about and how they can be overcome. Scriptures, such as D&C 20:73, are freely used throughout the text bringing authenticity to the claims of our Christian beliefs.   This book has been a great source of peace in these challenging times for me.

Focus Achieving Your Highest Priorities by Stephen R. Covey - is an audio CD product in MP3 format presents a fun and inspirational time management process that can - and will - change your life in ways you could never imagine possible.

I found that with this Stephen Covey audio workshop, I began a process and journey to a new way of thinking about time management. I learned how to identify - and Focus - on the tasks and priorities that matter most so that I can deliver maximum results everyday.

If you are like me you are bombarded daily with 100’s of tasks.  You are constantly being interrupted and yet are expected to produce results both in the work place and at home.

It’s great that I can now have it in MP3 format so I can listen while I’m working out, waiting in line at the grocery store, or driving to work.

With “Focus - Achieving Your Highest Priorities” by Stephen R. Covey, I learned to turn the things I have to do into the things I want to do. With this self-directed audio workshop I learned to make clearer choices about what is truly important in my life and then focus on completing them.
