The Work and the Glory Series by Gerald N. Lund
The Work and the Glory Series by Gerald N. Lund is an Mp3 collection of the nine volume historical adventure series that is quite unlike any other. Gerald N. Lund has done a masterful job of weaving together historical facts in church history and great fictional characters to make a story of monumental enjoyment and learning.
The series deals primarily with the lives of a fictitious family, the Steeds, who move to New York state in the 1820’s during a time when there was a great excitement among a number of people who questioned the validity of the Prophet Joseph’s revelations, his receipt of the golden plates, and other events in early church history. It was a period of time when testimonies were growing from a tiny spark to a burning fire in the bosom, and the lives of family members everywhere were going through mighty changes as the Gospel of Jesus Christ was being restored. As we share in the lives of this wonderful family we begin to realize and feel the intensity of the emotions, passions, sentiments, and convictions that urged the pioneers onward as they struggled to believe and live the restored gospel.
Each volume I have listened to has pulled me into the next one. I could hardly wait to know what was coming next. Most of all, I gained an understanding of many real historical facts regarding early church history that I was unaware of previously.
